Takeda Investing $126 M For New Mfg Facility Expansion In California

Takeda is investing $126 million at its site in Thousand Oaks, California for a new 15,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and a renovation of 14,000-square feet of manufacturing space at its existing facility. The investment increases the site’s capacity to manufacture additional products for rare diseases.

The company has broken ground for the new facility. In addition to the construction of the new manufacturing facility, the Thousand Oaks site is part of the company’s target to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by investing in new technologies that use renewable electricity. Measures are also in place to reduce water consumption and identify water risks. Takeda achieved carbon neutrality for its entire supply chain in 2020, and the site aims to reduce 40% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. A solar project slated to start in the second half of 2021 will meet 44% of the site's 2025 greenhouse emission goals.
